Engine Performance Using Autogas

As a general rule, running a petrol engine on Autogas will give a small reduction in the maximum power output of around 3%, but the overall drivability of the engine will not be affected in any way. For all normal driving there will be no noticeable difference.

The new liquid injection system will give an increase in power of approx. 3%

Due to the lower energy density of Autogas (a litre of Autogas contains less energy than a litre of petrol) the "miles per gallon" on Autogas will be about 15 - 20% less than on petrol. With the liquid injection "MPG" will be about 10% less than petrol.

Here are the many other advantages that Autogas has for your engine:

  • Autogas has a higher octane rating than petrol. Super unleaded petrol has an octane rating of 98, Autogas has an octane rating of about 106.
  • Autogas reaches the engine in pure gas form which will give improved combustion resulting in smoother running and fewer toxic emissions.
  • There is no dilution of the engine oil.
  • Unlike petrol, no additives are required to guarantee high quality.
  • Autogas exhibits less soot formation than petrol. This, along with the absence of any additives means less fouling of the spark plugs, so they maintain their efficiency for a much longer period.
  • Autogas produces much less carbon and corrosive acids in the engine than petrol, with the result that the engine oil degrades at a much slower rate.
  • All of these advantages mean that the life of the engine is extended. It has been determined that engines running on Autogas can last almost twice as long as those running on petrol or diesel.
